About the Course
About this workshop
AI chatbots are already in your hospital — in pockets, on ward computers, drafting referral letters after hours.
The question is no longer whether clinicians will use them, but whether they will use them safely. This
vendor-neutral workshop gives clinical staff of every discipline a working, practical grounding in
general-purpose AI tools: what they genuinely do well, where they fail in ways that matter clinically, what
must never be typed into them, and how to get reliably useful output. It is hands-on from the first hour and
built around realistic, fully synthetic Mauritian clinical scenarios. Participants leave with a personal safe-use
playbook they can apply the next morning.
Learning outcomes
– Explain in plain language how large language models work, and why fluent output is not the same as
correct output.
– Apply the requirements of the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017 to everyday AI use, including correct
de-identification of clinical information.
– Construct effective prompts for clinical communication, education and administrative tasks.
– Detect and correct AI errors — hallucinated references, wrong doses, outdated guidance — using
structured verification habits.
– Apply a personal green / amber / red framework to decide when AI is appropriate, when it needs
checking, and when it must not be used.
